After months of development and speculation, NBC has officially greenlit the Maya Rudolph and Martin Short variety show, titled Maya and Marty.
Set to debut in May, the series will be star Rudolph and Short, who will also produce alongside Late Show with David Letterman vet Matt Roberts and Erin David, with Saturday Night Live head Lorne Michaels executive producing.
As we previously reported, the music-comedy sketch program has been part of discussions at NBC since last August. It follows Rudolph's own variety special which aired one episode in 2014 and more recently Neil Patrick Harris' variety series Best Time Ever, which was canceled last fall after eight episodes.
With flagship SNL riding high this election year, NBC seems to be determined to add similar programming, with a kid-focused variety show called Little Big Shots, executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey, also scheduled to premiere in March.
