Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman has released a beautiful albeit poignant track called "Caroline," the first preview of an upcoming four-part EP collection The Wonderlands.

"Caroline," is a moving cut in which Foreman "wonders what became of an old friend, who was last spotted on a perilous path," according to a press release. He's previously played the song live.

The Wonderlands will arrive over the course of the next few months, beginning with Sunlight on May 26. Next up will be Shadows on July 17, followed by Darkness on Sept. 4 and Dawn on Oct. 23, all released digitally. For the physical releases, Sunlight & Shadows will be sold as one on July 17, with Darkness & Dawn following on Oct. 23.

A rep for Foreman adds that a special 24-hour event is also in the works to mark the final release of the series on Oct. 23.

"For years now, I've been working away on this," Foreman said in a statement. "Recording every chance I get—in studios, hotels and backstage green rooms. But even though it's a solo effort, I didn't want to do it alone. I wanted sparring partners who would hit back with their own musical muscles."

Thus, he's enlisted a number of his musical friends to collaborate: 24 songs with 24 co-producers and guests. Among them are Paramore's Taylor York, Grouplove's Andrew Wessen, Mutemath's Darren King, Dave Matthews Band's Jeff Coffin, Foster The People's Cubbie Fink and more. Producers include Neal Avron (Fall Out Boy, Sara Bareilles) and Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars, Switchfoot).

"My world has always been mapped out by music," Foreman said of the series' contents. "Even when I was a kid, songs were my landscape—a place to run to, a place to figure things out, a place to express the inexpressible. With The Wonderlands, I wanted to create a planet of my own: a world built out of songs. My hope is that listeners will find a new landscape to call their own."
