After launching his new solo project last summer, Slaves frontman Isaac Holman is back today with another new track.

This new entry in Holman's Baby Dave catalog is called "29," a wobbly yet irresistible new track which has a sort of uneasiness to it while still drawing you in ever so slightly. The song comes with news of the debut Baby Dave album, titled Monkey Brain, which is coming April 22, released independently. 

As we previously mentioned, Holman has collaborated with Damon Albarn on some of his new music, and the new record will feature contributions from Albarn, who co-produced "around half" of the 12 songs on the new album, while playing various instruments throughout.

"There really isn’t much of a story behind this tune, but that’s kind of the whole point," says Holman of the new song. "It’s about an uneventful bus journey from Brighton to Tunbridge Wells with my mate Lucy. I had my laptop with me and I decided to challenge myself to make a tune on the journey. This is that tune, about that journey.”

While fans will quickly note the quirkiness of Holman's new material compared to his past work, he says this new material is the result of coming out on the other side of a serious mental breakdown and moving back in with his parents as he began feeling suicidal while questioning if he'd make music again, all before the pandemic.

"I don’t know where this project would be if it wasn’t for [Albarn] and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and observe his wizardry," says Holman. "It was a proper game changer for me. Thank you for your patience; it shouldn’t have taken this long but ongoing issues with my mental health have made putting this record together incredibly challenging. Here we are though, we got there in the end. Can’t wait for you lot to hear it.”
