Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and producer Sea Glass, otherwise known as Jake Muskat, has just dropped his first track of the year, “New Romans.” Paving the way for a slew of singles to be released in 2022, the new song stems from a moment of inspiration during the dark and dull times of the pandemic. Looking at the world around him and feeling like he was witnessing scenes from a dystopian movie, this became the catalyst for his sonic palette. Fusing atmospheric synths with dreamlike melodies, Muskat sweeps you off into another dimension.

“New Romans” features vocals from Portland artist Blue Canopy. Adding his own unique flair, his laid-back, effortless vocals complement the colorful, animated synths which inject the song with a vibrancy. The tinkling guitars mirror the motion of a ticking clock, as the lyrics chant, “Why do we pass the time, I see it in the signs, wondering if I can fall apart in jest, wondering if I can float against the tide.” His pondersome tone probes a thought-provoking message as Muskat shares, “The music has a serious, almost systematic tone that became the soundtrack to living in a dystopian movie.”

It seems there may have been a few good things to have come out of the pandemic, with Sea Glass gracing us with his lockdown creations. We’re excited to hear more from the East Coast musician, with his upcoming EP due this year.
