Just days ago, few people were probably expecting a new Kanye West album. But that's exactly what we're about to get.

West teased the release of his new full-length DONDA (initially expected last July) with an Apple ad featuring new song "No Child Left Behind," which premiered during Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. Now, 48 hours later, he has debuted the album with a listening party in his hometown of Atlanta, broadcasting for an arena full of fans at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The live broadcast was streamed by Apple Music.

The release of DONDA, named after his mother Dr. Donda West, follows an interesting—at times, chaotic—period in Ye's life. Last year, he denounced his past support for Donald Trump and then ran for President himself. He has stayed out of the spotlight for much of the last few months, during which his wife Kim Kardashian filed for divorce and Ye's last album Jesus Is King also won a Grammy—for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

While no official announcement had been made, DONDA was expected to be released on July 23 shortly after the Atlanta listening party. In typical Kanye fashion, the record is still in the production phase, as Ye is said to be working feverishly to continue work on the project. Some reports suggest it will be released on Aug. 6. As of this writing, Def Jam has yet to confirm an official release date.
