It's always appreciated when we get new music from Aaron Taos, but the circumstances this time are not ideal.

The singer-songwriter on Friday released a four-song project called For Marv, a tribute to his late father, who passed away last month at the age of 84. In a note to fans after his passing, Taos described Marvin as the "most important person in my life" and his "best friend."

Read his own words below.

"My father, Marvin, was the most important person in my life. He was my closest confidant, unconditional supporter, and best friend. He passed away in January at the age of 84.

"During his last couple weeks of life, he was put in hospice at home. To help him through this time of passing I wrote him songs. Songs of love and appreciation. Songs of loss and sadness. Songs of comfort and support. They were also songs to help me let go of the heaviness I had always carried about losing him. He loved them. Even at the very end when he was in a coma, I would sit by his bedside with my mother and play them for him. I like to think he heard them and they helped carry him through his transition.

"In life, my dad was supportive of my career and always thought the best songs came from experience and a place of truth. With this in mind, I recorded the songs I wrote for him and am releasing them in the form of an EP. It's called "For Marv" and it's a celebration of everything he meant to me and the process of losing him. As an academic, he was always sharing various magazine and newspaper articles with me grouped in manila folders. The artwork of this project is created from those folders and pictures he gave me in his final weeks.

"Death is difficult, but it is an important part of life. Although this is a release for my father, I hope others will connect with the emotion and experience of these songs. Music is a reflection of life, and loss is something we all go through. Please listen to these with an open heart.

"Thank you dad, you were an amazing father and a very special person to many. This one's for you. I love you Marv."
