Jordan Beckett (aka Bootstraps) is back with new music.
His incredible new single "Evergreen" is out Friday (Sept.13) and it's premiering a day early on Variance. The captivating cut is a preview of the Los Angeles-based artist's upcoming third album Demo Love, which is expected to arrive this fall.
"'Evergreen' is about feeling transient," says Beckett about the new song. "The world I was seeing in L.A. and my own life was like a TV eternally switching channels, riding out waves of relationships that were here and gone too soon. False starts, 'a wild horse on a leash' but still believing in the existence of permanence and finding something constant; evergreen as it were. This kind of dualism, reality vs. optimism creates a certain conflict I like in my music."
While he was working on the rest of the album, Beckett was fascinated by the dichotomy of the word "demo," which could mean "demonstrate" or "demolish." The phrase "demo love" also refers to a music industry expression of loving a song's original "demo" so much you can't quite accept the final take. Those contrasting ideas turned out to be the themes of the record.
Hear "Evergreen" below and on any digital platform Friday.
