Seattle native Mark Diamond is getting a head start on the weekend with his lush new single "Heaven."
The hypnotic new cut is officially out Friday, but he's premiering the song today on Variance. It follows his recent debut Hummingbird EP and it comes as the 25-year-old singer continues to tease his first full-length.
"I wrote the chorus of 'Heaven' my first month of living in California," says Diamond of the new song. "I was sitting in my little bedroom studio at the time and I honestly can’t remember if the lyrics or melody came first. All I remember is singing that line, 'Picture you, picture me it’s like heaven. Some place that we both don’t believe in.' It felt really raw and honest to me."
He adds: "Sometimes when you’re with somebody special, those little moments can feel like a place that you never knew existed. I think the chorus is also a bit of plea, asking that if all it really takes for something to be real is for it to be believed in, then why can’t we be together. Anywho... I felt some lightning in my chest when I wrote this. I actually slid across the hardwood floor, I was so excited."
