After causing a stir on Wednesday with speculation she might be preparing to release a new album, Solange has quickly satisfied fans' anticipation by simply putting out the new record, titled When I Get Home.
The new album, the younger Knowles sister's followup to her 2016 LP A Seat at the Table, arrived promptly at midnight on Friday. It features a slew of contributions from the likes of Pharrell Williams; Tyler, the Creator; Dev Hynes; Metro Boomin; Earl Sweatshirt; Sampha; Playboi Carti; The-Dream; Cassie; Gucci Mane; and Panda Bear, among others.
Solange's decision to suddenly release the record might have partly been due to the fact that many fans were likely expecting it the project to arrive several weeks ago, after a New York Times magazine interview with the singer noted it was "imminent this fall."
On Wednesday, Solange surprised fans with a newly created profile on the social network BlackPlanet, leading to rumors of a looming album release. Hours later on Thursday, she shared the tracklist and then later in the evening confirmed on Twitter the album is called When I Get Home and it would in fact arrive at midnight.
"I’m filled [with] so much joy right now!!! Wow," said Solange in a tweet on Thursday night. "I can’t thank y’all enough for this moment and for all the feelings I feel in my body! I’m bringing home [with] me everywhere I go. [Y'all] and I ain’t running from shit no more. Your love lifts me up so high. Thank you!"
