Saturday was a big night at Chicago's Northerly Island, where the Special Olympics held its 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert.
Variance was one of the few outlets given access to cover the event, which was headlined by none other than Chicago's own Chance the Rapper, who capped off a night which also included guest appearances from the likes of star Olympians Michael Phelps, Michelle Kwan and Hannah Teter, Bulls player Jabari Parker and WWE vet Big Show.
Also on the night's massive, four-hour lineup were Usher, Smokey Robinson, O.A.R., Daya and frequent Chance collaborator Francis and the Lights, as well as Jason Mraz, the latter of whom delivered one of the most inspirational sets as he performed with a number of Special Olympics athletes.
As we previously mentioned, Chance showed his appreciation to be headlining the show by earlier in the week releasing four brand new songs, including "I Might Need Security," in which he boasted about having secretly bought Chicago-based news and culture publication Chicagoist.
