Icelandic rock band Kaleo brought their blues-soaked rock to the Sylvee in Madison on Saturday (Sept. 27), delivering a dynamic performance that balanced raw power with soulful emotion. The show, part of their Mixed Emotions tour, opened with support from Stephen Day before frontman J.J. Julius Son and company took the stage to roaring applause.
The set moved fluidly through the band’s catalog, kicking off with high-energy tracks like “Break My Baby” and “Broken Bones” before shifting into softer, more reflective moments with fan favorites “All the Pretty Girls” and “Automobile.” Julius Son’s gravelly vocals carried each song with striking intensity, while the band’s tight instrumentation built an atmosphere that swung from haunting to explosive.
The crowd reached peak energy during “Way Down We Go,” singing along as the room filled with the song’s slow-burning tension. Kaleo closed the night with the raucous “No Good” before returning for an encore of “Rock N Roller,” leaving fans on a high note. The performance proved why the band continues to resonate with audiences, blending intimacy and power into a show that felt both timeless and electric.
