Reneé Rapp performing at Allstate Arena, by Dan DeSlover

Reneé Rapp turned Allstate Arena into a confessional on Thursday, delivering an 80-minute set that balanced bite with vulnerability. The North Carolina native opened with “Leave Me Alone” and moved through new album highlights like “Kiss It Kiss It,” “Talk Too Much,” and the stormy “Poison Poison,” saving chest punchers “Snow Angel,” “Not My Fault,” and “At Least I’m Hot” for the home stretch.

Her voice carried the venue, just outside of Chicago, and the staging kept focus on her presence rather than pyrotechnics. Between songs, Rapp also threaded a through line of purpose, as a pre-show video urged donations to the tour’s charity partner Save the Children with proceeds from some online merchandise going to the organization.

"Right now, millions of children around the world are in crisis," the singer said in the video. "Children in Gaza, children in the Kongo, children in Sudan, children everywhere. War, hunger, genocide, natural disasters, poverty ... While we are incredibly lucky to be here in company and in community, many are not so lucky. Save the Children fights for kids' rights, bringing food, water, shelter and education and health care to the places that need to it most."

Chicago’s own Ravyn Lenae set the tone with a 30-minute opener that floated from “Days” to the sing along “Love Me Not,” a warm welcome for a near-capacity Thursday night. As arena tours swell larger every season, Rapp’s Chicago stop proved economy can still feel electric when the songs hit and the singer means every word and knows exactly what she wants to say.
