Perfume Genius performing at The Vic in Chicago, by Josh Darr

Mike Hadreas (aka Perfume Genius) delivered a spellbinding night at Chicago’s historic Vic Theatre on June 17, bringing his emotionally rich Glory Tour to life.

What made it unforgettable was the fusion of music and movement. Hadreas interacted with onstage props such as an exercise ball, chair and bright orange cords in near dance-like improvisation. Highlights included bellowing “It’s a Mirror” while leaping on the ball and twirling wildly during “No Front Teeth,” all choreographed in the moment. The lighting design was equally dynamic: smoky backdrops, towering strobes and eerie reds brought dramatic depth to songs like “Describe.”

The show felt fluid, unpredictable and deeply human, an art-pop performance with raw theatricality spanning an incredible 18 tracks, including a two-song encore.

The singer, who released his newest album Glory earlier this year, just capped his North American run and next month will head to Europe and the U.K. for an international trek.
