After surprise-releasing a new album earlier this year, Sigur Rós has been performing a handful of live shows over the summer.
One of the final dates on the tour included a performance at the storied Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley in California. As with the other dates, the band was joined on stage by Wordless Music Orchestra, performing songs from Sigur Rós's 10-track album ÁTTA, which arrived back in June, as well select tracks from their extensive catalog, all with the help of a stunning, 41-piece orchestra.
In a year which has seen so many major acts returning to the road in some way following the quiet of 2020, Sigur Rós and the accompanying show proved why they continue to resonate so closely with fans.
This recent album stood out in many ways, as frontman Jónsi noted they went into the project “just wanting to have minimal drums and for the music to be really sparse, floaty and beautiful. We’re getting older and more cynical, so I just wanted to move us so that we felt something!”
