You knew there had to be a catch. Arrested Development season 5 is still premiering on May 29, but only half of it.

Only the first eight of 16 episodes will be made available later this month when the show returns on Netflix. The rest are expected to arrive later this year, presumably.

While that unfortunate news may come as a surprise, it's actually becoming a common occurrence with Netflix series, as comedies The Ranch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are both splitting their upcoming seasons.

As Entertainment Weekly points out, the timing is likely not a coincidence, considering Kimmy returns on May 30, a day after Arrested returns, both just in time for the May 31 to qualify for consideration for the 2018 Emmy Awards.

Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Alia Shawkat, Michael Cera, David Cross and Jeffrey Tambor are all returning for season 5 of Arrested Development.
