Fast-rising emo rapper Gustav Åhr (aka Lil Peep) has died, his publicist has confirmed.

The 21-year-old artist's sudden passing came as he was quickly making waves in the music industry. He had just released his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1., back in September.

Having swiftly earned a mass of fans through SoundCloud and YouTube, Peep was candid about his use of Xanax. His music explicitly nodded to his struggles with drug abuse and depression.

While a cause of death wasn't immediately given, his manager Chase Ortega took to Twitter writing, "I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck." No Jumper podcast host Adam Grandmaison, a friend of Lil Peep's, claimed he had overdosed Wednesday night and was rushed to the hospital.

On Tuesday, Lil Peep shared a video of himself claiming he had taken "six Xanax and I was lit." Just hours before his death, he posted an Instagram photo of himself shirtless with the caption, "When I die you'll love me."

Sarah Stennett, CEO of First Access Entertainment, the record label alternative which had partnered with Lil Peep, released a statement on Thursday.

"I have spoken to his mother and she asked me to convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life," Stennett said. "She is truly grateful to the fans and the people who have supported and loved him."
