Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has died. He was 41.

TMZ reported Thursday the singer was found early this morning by his wife. He is said to have committed suicide by hanging himself.

Further details were not immediately available and a rep for Bennington had not immediately responded to a request for comment at the time of this writing.

According to TMZ, police responded to an incident this morning before 9 a.m. PST at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates, a district of Los Angeles County. At press time, law enforcement officials only confirmed they were investigating Bennington's death as a suicide.

Bennington was close friends with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, who committed suicide in May, also by hanging himself. He gave the eulogy at Cornell's funeral. Today (July 20) would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday.

When Linkin Park appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live back in May, the band opted not to perform their hit single "Heavy" but instead performed their emotional song "One More Light," the title track to their recent album, in tribute to Cornell.

Linkin Park has won two Grammy Awards and released seven full-length albums, including their Diamond-certified debut Hybrid Theory, which has sold 30 million copies world and was the most successful debut of the 2000s.

Following the news, fellow Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda responded on Twitter. "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true," he said. "An official statement will come out as soon as we have one."

Bennington is survived by his wife, Talinda Ann Bentley, and six children.
