The Late Show's Stephen Colbert will host this year's 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, CBS confirmed on Monday.

The announcement wasn't much of a surprise, considering both NBC and ABC have recently tapped their networks' late-night stars as hosts, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting last year's ABC broadcast and Seth Meyers hosting in 2014 for NBC. In 2015, Fox picked Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg.

“We’re excited to kick off the new season and celebrate the top achievements in television with Stephen Colbert as host of the Primetime Emmys,” said Jack Sussman, executive vice president of specials, music and live events, CBS Entertainment. “Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we’ve seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. We look forward to honoring television’s best while entertaining audiences with the creative energy and sharp comedy of Stephen Colbert.”

They 2017 Emmys are set to air live Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. Nominations will be announced on July 13.
