As Nick Murphy (better known as Chet Faker) prepares to release his next album, the singer announced Friday he's ditching his stage name and will now perform by his birth name.
"It's been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker and all of you have been the driving force behind the music since," the 22-year-old Australian singer said in a note today. "There's an evolution happening and I wanted to let you know where it's going. The next record will be under my own name, Nick Murphy. Chet Faker will always be a part of the music. This is next."
Murphy's debut album Built on Glass was released two years ago and was one of Variance's Best Albums of 2014. He has since collaborated with the likes of Little Dragon, BANKS and Marcus Marr.
There's no word on when his new album might arrive, but Murphy's message today is likely a sign music is coming sooner rather than later.
