The nominations for the 2016 Emmy Awards were announced Thursday, with a number of fresh faces and surprises amongst some of the usual suspects (Homeland, Modern Family).
As expected, HBO's juggernaut Game of Thrones leads the number of nods, with 23 total for its recent sixth season. Meanwhile, FX's The Americans is finally getting some love with nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Matthew Rhys and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Keri Russell after four years of being passed over.
Likewise, Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany has finally received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (for her portrayal of eight different clone characters), while Ellie Kemper got her first Lead Actress nomination for the sophomore run of Netflix's comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Newcomers such as Mr. Robot and Master of None also received recognition, with the former's Rami Malek taking a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in addition to the show's nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Master's Aziz Ansari received a nomination for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series—his first—and the show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Beyoncé's visual album Lemonade, which premiered as an HBO special in April, also received four nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special and Outstanding Directing for the singer herself alongside co-director Kahlil Joseph.
The Emmys are set to air Sept. 18, on ABC, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
