‘Parks and Recreation’ to feature real-life senators; Amy Poehler scores Emmy nod

NBC’s little comedy that could, Parks and Recreation, is getting some big-name cameos for the upcoming season. The Amy Poehler comedy has enlisted Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., John McCain, R-Ariz., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, for its upcoming fifth season in an episode called “Ms. Knope Goes to Washington.” The trio will play themselves at a D.C. mixer attended by Ben (Adam Scott) and Leslie (Poehler) in the second episode of the season.

In related news, the show garnered three Emmy nominations on Thursday, including one for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Poehler.

Parks and Recreation returns Thursday, Sept. 20 at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.
