Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack has passed away at 70 after a lengthy battle with health problems.

Variance has confirmed his passing with his publicist at label XL Recordings, who provided only the following: "Unfortunately it is true. We have no details at this time."

Soul Tracks first reported the news on Friday afternoon.

Womack, who originally wrote and recorded the Rolling Stones' hit "It's All Over Now," had recently struggled with Alzheimer's disease and colon cancer.

Womack, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, was in the process of recording a new album featuring the likes of Stevie Wonder and Snoop Dogg.
