SZA at Soundset 2019, by Bailey Accorto

Memorial Day meant a long holiday weekend for many, but for music fans in Minnesota, it was also time for Rhymesayers' 12th annual Soundset Festival in Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

The one-day Sunday fest featured performances from the likes of Lil Wayne, SZA, Run the Jewels, G-Eazy and Atmosphere, as well as DMX, Prof, Trippie Redd, Taylor Bennett, Tech N9ne, Doja Cat and more.

As with past years, Sway Calloway hosted the main stages of the festival, emceeing between performances, as the thousands of attendees enjoyed great food, a car show and live painting and art installations.

This year's Soundset wasn't without a few hiccups, as Lil Uzi Vert backed out, having canceled without notice back in 2017. "We chose to give him the chance to make it up to fans, but unfortunately, he's just canceled again without explanation," festival organizers said in a note just hours before the scheduled performance.

While Lil Uzi Vert was absent, the festival managed to recruit some worthy fill-ins, with Lil Nas X and DaBaby stepping in and each delivering standout sets.
