George Michael has died, the former Wham! singer's publicist confirmed Sunday.
According to his rep, he "passed away peacefully at home."
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," The British superstar's publicist said in a statement obtained by Variance.
The statement continued: "The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."
At press time, the BBC reported police did not immediately believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding Michael's death, with authorities noting his passing was "unexplained but not suspicious."
Michael's longtime manager Michael Lippman subsequently told the U.K. Press Association the singer died of heart failure. An autopsy will also be performed, local police have confirmed.
As of last month, Michael was said to be putting the "final touches" on a new documentary film Freedom, which chronicles his life and career. It is expected to premiere this March on Showtime.
