Apple is plunging into the water-resistant (and dust-proof) pool with its heavily hyped iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
The company accidentally shared the news Wednesday on Twitter, before deleting the tweets. Coincidentally, Apple had only joined Twitter this week ahead of its annual keynote event, where Tim Cook and Co. are expected to officially unveil the new devices.
Water-resistant—and even waterproof—devices have been largely mainstream since 2013, with the likes of Samsung, Sony and Motorola having produced water-friendly phones for years.
Most of the new phones' design changes are subtle, but the Plus camera includes dual lenses for better depth. Both the 7 and 7 Plus are available in black, silver, gold, jet black and rose gold. And Apple has confirmed it will no longer offer 16GB devices, with the 7 and 7 Plus being available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB.
As expected, the new iPhone has also done away with the headphone jack, instead steering users toward wireless "AirPods," which start at $159 and will be available in October. As an alternative for those who prefer wired earphones, all iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices will come with Lightning EarPods (which connect via the phone's Lightning port, aka the charging port) as well as a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter.
The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available on Sept. 16, with pre-orders starting this Friday (Sept. 9).
