Following rumors that Brad Pitt may be in the running to star in the second season of True Detective, reports surfaced Wednesday morning that his would-be co-star has already been offered the other lead role.
Consistent with reports that creator Nic Pizzolatto was aiming for a female-driven plot this time around, Nerdist claimed actress Jessica Chastain had been offered a leading role in the forthcoming season. Previously nominated for an Oscar for her roles in Zero Dark Thirty and The Help, she is also set to appear alongside season one star Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar, which releases in November.
However, a rep for Chastain confirmed to E! that she will not be participating in the series.
McConaughey and Woody Harrelson made clear early on that they would not return for a second season, which is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in early 2015.
