Only moments after Sam Smith was revealed to be leading the 2015 GRAMMY nominations (as of this writing), the singer's debut album, In the Lonely Hour, has officially been certified platinum in the United States.

The Recording Industry Association of America revealed the news Friday morning, confirming the set has crossed the 1 million sales mark domestically.

In the Lonely Hour is only the third album released this year to reach the seven-figure number in the States, following Taylor Swift's double-platinum 1989 and Ariana Grande's My Everything.
