Mase closed down his Instagram account Thursday morning, shortly after the photo-sharing app purged more than 1.5 million of his followers.
Instagram has been "deactivating spammy accounts" throughout December, with one final, albeit major sweep on Thursday. Many accounts lost anywhere from dozens to a few hundred followers, but those who paid for fans or have engaged in spam-like behavior were likely to see a greater impact.
Instagram said in a statement it "will be deleting these accounts forever." So unless Mase's account was itself a "spammy" one, it seems the idea of engaging with only 270,000 real people just isn't an option.
