The Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon has died at 59 after a two-year battle with terminal cancer.

TMZ first reported the news and Simpsons showrunner Al Jean has confirmed the report.

Simon was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2012 and had been given three to six months to live. He previously vowed to donate his entire $100 million fortune to charity upon his death.

A veteran of television, Simon co-created The Simpsons in 1989 with Matt Groening and James L. Brooks. He wrote numerous episodes of the show in addition to writing for other iconic series such as Taxi and Cheers.
