It's finally official. After months of negotiating, The X-Files has received a six-episode order from Fox to return 13 years after the sci-fi smash aired its last episode on the network.

Production will begin this summer, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” creator-executive producer Chris Carter said in a statement. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
