As the latest evidence of Kendrick Lamar's positive influence not only in music but in the wider culture, his single "Alright" has been cited as inspiration for a new college scholarship fund.

Created by OogeeWoogee, a media outlet emphasizing hip-hop and counterculture, the Be Alright Scholarship asked candidates to submit videos "explaining the positive aspects of hip-hop and [showcasing] their talent" for a chance to be selected.

Hamza Qureshi, a new freshman at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University as of this week, was awarded the $1,500 scholarship on Tuesday. He said hip-hop has been more than just "another way to learn," explaining that "it was really something that helped me mature. [It] helped me grow as a writer, as a performer, as a poet. And just as a person.”
