After weeks of speculation and numerous, not-so-subtle hints, Sony Pictures confirmed on Tuesday that Sam Smith will contribute "Writing's on the Wall," the theme song for the upcoming 24th James Bond film, Spectre.
Smith is the first British solo male artist to sing the Bond theme since 1965. He follows fellow Brit Adele, who sang the previous theme "Skyfall," which went on to win Best Original Song at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
"This is one of the highlights of my career," Smith said in a statement of the track, which he co-wrote with Jimmy Napes. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."
The song will be released Sept. 25 on Capitol Records, while the film itself will arrive in U.S. theaters on Nov. 6 (Oct. 26 in the U.K.).
