Sunday night's Emmys—the lowest rated in television history—could have included a performance from the Foo Fighters, but Fox scrapped it, according to frontman Dave Grohl.

When asked by TMZ on Monday why he didn't attend the ceremony, Grohl revealed the band was "supposed to play on the Emmys" but "then they kicked us off."

Foo Fighters said in an official statement on Monday: "The band and the Academy were extremely happy and excited to have Foo Fighters play as the first ever rock band on the Emmys. Fox then refused to allow the band to play a full song from the Emmy-winning Sonic Highways," the band said. "That is why the band decided not to perform."

Representatives for Fox did not immediately comment, but it's possible they would have appreciated the extra fans tuning in.
