A film about Amy Winehouse's life and death is currently in the works, with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace in talks for the lead role.

Irish filmmaker Kristen Sheridan is writing and directing the project, while producers are in discussions with Winehouse's father Mitch, who handles the late singer's estate, to obtain music rights.

News of the biopic follows the Asif Kapadia-directed documentary, Amy, which premiered earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival and featured unseen archive footage and previously unheard tracks.

Winehouse passed away in July 2011 from alcohol poisoning. She was 27.
