Following the release of his Irons in the Fire EP earlier this year, Matthew Mayfield has released a brand new track "Heartbeat."

Of the new song, Mayfield said: "'Heartbeat' was one of the easy ones. It gave itself to me in one sitting. There's a little bit of everything in the lyric: a little reality, a little wishful thinking, a little past, a little present. The story is simple in that there are those times in life where you meet someone briefly and find yourself reconnected years down the line by a chain of events you can't explain. Songs are how I process everything—the good and the bad. With 'Heartbeat,' I had a bit of both sides to channel into the song."

We've been fans of Mayfield for a long time, and this latest offering is another incredible track from one of the hardest working, DIY musicians in the industry. Despite having been pursued by various companies and even NBC's The Voice, Mayfield told Variance earlier this year that he "[doesn't] want fame without true fans."

This latest sampling is likely a good sign for those fans, as a new full-length would appear to be on the horizon.

"Heartbeat" is available now for purchase on iTunes. Listen to it now below via Mayfield's new lyric video.
