Noted Taylor Swift fan and newly awarded MVP Russell Westbrook received high praise from the singer herself following his big win at Monday night's NBA Awards.

The Oklahoma City Thunder shared a congratulatory video message from Swift, who has largely retreated from public life for the first half of 2017—likely because she'll be omnipresent in the second half promoting a new album.

In the clip, Swift jokes that the two "go way back," falsely recalling how she "was the one who taught you how to play basketball." She adds: "I remember the first time you beat me at basketball and I was very upset and—if you remember correctly—you said, ‘You just have to shake it off,’ and I got an idea. So, essentially, we have each other to thank for these careers."

Although Swift didn't teach Westbrook how to play ball and the two have actually never met, Swift wasn't joking when she declared, "You are amazing. You’re the MVP. I’m so happy for you," she said. "I’m sending you the biggest hug ever!"

While some fans might be perplexed by the Swift-Westbrook connection, it's worth noting the Thunder star has made no secret of his love for Swift's music. He's previously shared videos of himself singing songs such as "Bad Blood" and "22," as well as attending a show on Swift's last tour in 2015.
