Despite terrible critical reception in its second season, True Detective may live to see a third run.

HBO's programming president Michael Lombardo said Thursday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that he's “enormously proud” of the show and definitely open to another season.

"The way the show ends is as satisfying as any show I've seen," Lombardo said, adding that if creator Nic Pizzolatto wants another shot, "I'd love to do another season with him."

Lombardo also called Pizzolatto "one of the best writers working in television and motion pictures today," noting that he feels True Detective opened the door for other limited series.
