The numbers are in for Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, and it's not good.

Despite airing across seven Viacom-owned networks, the awards show only attracted 5.4 million viewers, down 17% from last year. It also earned a 2.6 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic, a 34% decline.

Unfortunately, the VMAs are typically held on the last Sunday in August, which happened to be the same night as the season 7 finale of Game of Thrones, which aired in the summer rather the spring this year because of production delays.

While the HBO juggernaut squashed the trophy show in total viewership, delayed viewing and in the 18-49 demo, MTV did have one high mark in younger viewers. It outperformed Thrones in teen viewership, averaging 309,000.

MTV is also up 31% for the month of August in the 18-34 demo.
