As the gulf region in Texas braces for Hurricane Harvey, Coldplay has canceled their concert Friday night at Houston's NRG Stadium.

The band had said Thursday on Twitter they intended to perform but they were monitoring the situation. Earlier today, they confirmed their decision to "postpone" the show because of growing concern as Harvey prepares to make landfill late tonight and early Saturday morning.

"We really wanted to play tonight, but sitting here all together watching the news about the storm we feel that we can’t ask anyone to put their safety at risk," the band said today. "So, sadly, we will have to postpone. We will soon give details of rescheduling/refunding as soon as we can. We are really sorry for the inconveniences this will cause. Stay safe and see you soon."

Mary J. Blige, who was set to perform tonight at Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land with opener Lalah Hathaway, has also canceled her show, rescheduling it for Sept. 19. The venue said in a statement tickets will be honored on the rescheduled date. "If you are not able to attend the rescheduled date, refunds will be made available at the point of purchase," the venue confirmed.

Additionally, Lady Antebellum isn't taking any chances, announcing on Thursday they have scrapped their show in The Woodlands which was planned for Sunday night. "Refunds will be made automatically at point of purchase," Live Nation has announced.

Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall overnight tonight and into Saturday morning as a Category 3 hurricane, the first such storm to hit the States in a decade. Cities from Corpus Christi to Houston and even more inland are expecting between 15 to 25 inches of rainfall, with some coastal areas expecting upwards of 30 inches.
