Justin Bieber apparently won't be performing in China anytime soon.

According to Beijing's Bureau of Culture, the pop star's past behavior led to the decision to bar him. As we previously reported, Bieber is set to perform elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific this September, with shows scheduled in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

"Justin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer," the bureau said in a statement, responded to someone's inquiry about Bieber's lack of Chinese shows. "As far as we are concerned, he has engaged in a series of bad behaviours, both in his social life and during a previous performance in China, which caused discontent among the public."

The singer caused a stir in China during his Believe tour in 2013, when he was seen being carried up the Great Wall of China by bodyguards. He also sparked outrage on social media after he posted a photo of himself visiting the controversial Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

Bieber is not the first to be blocked or disinvited from performing in China. Björk, Oasis, Bob Dylan and Maroon 5 have all been banned for political reasons, while Jay-Z has also been blocked due to the use of "profanity" in his lyrics.
