James Van Der Beek has been cast as DJ-producer Diplo in an upcoming comedy project tentatively called What Would Diplo Do?.

The six-episode effort will be Viceland's first scripted series. And according to a press release, it will see the Dawson's Creek vet as a fictional version of Diplo, with a “Louie meets WorldStarHipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap” vibe.

In addition to starring in the series, Van Der Beek will also write and produce the project, with Diplo executive producing. It is expected to premiere sometime later this year.

It's actually not the first time the two have worked together for a Diplo parody, as Van Der Beek played the producer in a “Day in the Life of Diplo" video, which was released last summer to promote Diplo's Mad Decent Block Party tour.
