Newly released video, said to be security camera footage, shows what appears to be CeeLo Green in the studio with an exploding smartphone.

At press time, it wasn't clear the origins of the video, but in it, Green seems to be taking a phone call while working in a studio. He carries on for a few seconds until the device appears to emit smoke just moments before exploding in the singer's hand. He immediately falls to the ground, where he remains motionless until the end of the short video.

Little is known about the clip, including the time and date of the recording or the type of device being used. But it comes months after incidents of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 exploding during use, forcing the company to recall the products.

Reps for Green did not immediately respond to a request for comment or to confirm or deny the veracity of the clip.

Update (9:55 p.m. EST): Green took to Facebook Live on Saturday night to confirm the leaked footage was from an upcoming music project called Gnarly Davidson, which he teased earlier this year. "I just want to let everybody know that I am alive, that I’m well and I’m OK,” he said in his message to fans, adding: "I’m really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today."

He said the final forthcoming video is meant to introduce his "new character identity."
