Kanye West was admitted into a Los Angeles hospital, the Associated Press reported Monday night.

NBC News reported local police responded to a medical welfare call around about 1:20 p.m. PST, noting the decision to hospitalize the emcee was "for his own health and safety," according to a source close to the situation.

TMZ has subsequently claimed West was suffering from severe sleep deprivation and was advised to see a doctor. He is said to have refused and was ultimately "restrained" to be transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

In compliance with HIPAA laws, the Los Angeles Fire Department could not confirm West's involvement in any incident, but a spokesperson verified they responded to a call from the "900-block of North Laurel Avenue," where an "adult male described as medically stable was taken to an area hospital for further assessment."

As we reportedly earlier Monday, West canceled his Los Angeles show on Sunday just hours before showtime. He subsequently scrapped the remainder of his 21 tour dates.

A rep for the emcee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
