Mercury Prize Nominees: Bowie, Radiohead, The 1975 + More

Still of David Bowie from 'Mr. Rice's Secret'

The Mercury Prize nominations have come somewhat early this year, having been announced Thursday in London.

Among the contenders for the U.K.'s prestigious album of the year award are David Bowie's Blackstar, which was released two days before his death; Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool; The 1975's I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it; Skepta's Konnichiwa; Bat for Lashes' The Bride and more.

In contrast with prior years, the public will be allowed to vote for their favorite, with the top fan pick being included among a list of six finalists chosen by a panel of critics, journalists and artist. The winner ultimately announced on Sept. 15.

Previous winners of the Mercury Prize include Young Fathers' Dead, James Blake's Overgrown, Alt J's An Awesome Wave, The xx's xx and more.
