'No Plans' to Trade Stephen Colbert for James Corden, Says CBS Exec

With Late Show host Stephen Colbert having a great moment thanks to this week's Republican National Convention coverage, CBS is assuring his job is safe, despite shaky ratings.

“We have no plans to flip the two shows," CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, referring to Colbert's program and the Late Late Show with James Corden.

Geller did, however, concede Colbert's show has had an "uneven" performance since debuting nearly a year ago. “It’s really easy for people to pit the shows against each other. But they’re different kinds of shows, they’re different kinds of hosts,” he said. “One was a known quantity to America, and the other was not. I don’t think it’s fair to compare the two.”

In bringing back his Colbert Report character and a guest appearance from Jon Stewart, Colbert's Late Show has been live this week post-RNC (and next week's Democratic convention). In turn, he's delivering some of the show's best ratings in months

Geller's comments after last week's Emmy nominations, in which Corden's Late Late Show was nominated for Outstanding Variety Talk Series alongside the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
