Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi) is beefing up his acting résumé, having joined the cast of Fox's hit Empire for its third season this fall.

Entertainment Weekly reported Wednesday that Cudi will play the recurring role of Gram, a rapper who will serve as a rival to Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray), both in his career and his personal life.

Cudi has previously appeared in films such as Need for Speed and Entourage, while he's no stranger to Fox series, previously guest starring on The Cleveland Show and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

As we previously mentioned, the third season of Empire premieres Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
