It's official: Just hours before The Americans airs the 11th episode of its current fourth season, FX has renewed the Cold War spy drama for two additional seasons, with its sixth and final run to air in 2018.
“Through its first four seasons, critics have lauded The Americans as one of the best shows on television and, remarkably, a series that keeps getting better every year,” FX president of original programming Eric Schrier said in a statement released Wednesday. “We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel to tell this story to its perfect conclusion.”
The network confirmed its fifth season will consist of 13 episodes (like the current one), airing in 2017, with a final 10-episode season the following year.
FX has also closed deals with creator and executive producer Joe Weisberg and executive producer Joel Fields to develop their post-Americans project.
The Americans has consistently ranked among Variance's top 10 best shows each year since its inception. It currently airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
