Will Smith, JAY Z and Calvin Harris Developing HBO Comedy

HBO is hoping to continue its hot streak of buzzworthy series with a left-field offering in the form of a comedy from Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, Will Smith and JAY Z.

Deadline is reporting the network is coordinating with Harris to develop a half-hour, fictional series, which will explore the world of electronic music, written by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh. Among the handful of producers will be Overbrook Entertainment, steered by Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith, and Marcy Media's Shawn "JAY Z” Carter.

Harris is currently nominated for two GRAMMYs, including Best Dance/Electronica Album for 18 Months.

HBO has been doing well over the past few seasons with highs from Girls and Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, The Newsroom has been a mixed bag and is on its way out. But the network is currently trying to restock as its lineup has begun to age.
