Chipotle Suing Frank Ocean for Backing Out of Ad Campaign

Not only did Chipotle replace Frank Ocean with Fiona Apple for their "Scarecrow" ad campaign last fall, but now the Mexican food chain is suing him for backing out in the first place.

According to the company, Ocean had previously agreed (via his talent representatives) to record a track called "Pure Imagination," but upon learning the song would be utilized for a Chipotle commercial, the singer opted out. Unfortunately, he had already been paid a $212,500 advance, with an identical payment to come after the ad's completion.

Ocean's representatives claim there was originally no Chipotle connection or branding mentioned prior to the agreement, and that "Frank was also promised that he'd have the right to approve the master and all advertising." Chipotle has denied those claims, and is suing for the advance plus "damages."
