Dear 'SNL': Don't Let Us Down on the JAY Z-Solange Fight

(Update: Watch the 'SNL' cold open, which proves we were pretty accurate)

Following the elevator fight that shook the nation planet, many fans began to wonder if something was awry in the Knowles-Carter family, notorious for their secretive relationship with the media.

Although JAY Z, Solange and Beyoncé have apparently patched things up and moved on, that certainly doesn’t mean the public will let up as easily. And given that this spectacle has played out the week of Saturday Night Live’s forthcoming season finale, one would assume (or hope) the NBC sketch comedy series has spent the last four days plotting how to work the incident into this weekend’s Andy Samberg-hosted episode.

Because this is Samberg’s first time at the reins since exiting the show, he’ll likely want to make a big—and good—impression. As he previously told Variance, he’s big on "writing very visually.” But here’s the thing, Samberg: We want the audio from that elevator. Do you think you could make that happen?

We all remember that epic 2012 sketch when Maya Rudolph and Jay Pharoah brilliantly parodied Mr. and Mrs. Carter. And we also know that when SNL alums return, they generally don’t come solo. Rather conveniently, Rudolph’s got her big variety show premiering on Monday, so it’s not like she’s unavailable for promo.

Of course, now that Sasheer Zamata is part of the cast, SNL is finally covered when stories like this break and we need someone to play the vital role of, say, Solange. Or maybe, just maybe, the younger Knowles herself would be up for poking fun at herself to soften her image against some of those (largely unfair) criticisms lobbed in her direction this past week. And we know Samberg’s worked with Solange in the past, so he’s got her number.

Between the elevator spat and Donald Sterling's interview with Anderson Cooper, SNL should have more material to work with than an average news week. If anything, at least we have musical guest Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) to look forward to this week. But expectations are definitely a bit higher than usual, so hopefully the season closer doesn't let us down.

As a side note, you may want to lower your expectations because SNL has had a spotty track record in recent years. But this is also the same show that earlier this month gave us "The Beygency," coincidentally also about Beyoncé. Fingers crossed, guys.
